Brama Joseph Bussell, 28, of King George, is in custody in St. Mary's County following an early-morning fight last week, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office announced on Monday, Dec. 12.

Officials said that the incident began shortly before 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8, when deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 11100 block of Point Lookout Road in Scotland, for a reported assault in the area.

The investigation determined that Bussell allegedly approached his victim from behind and struck his victim multiple times in the head and back.

During the altercation, investigators said that Bussell allegedly submerged his victim's head in a ditch filled with water "for an extended period of time," until a witness intervened and ordered Bussell to back down.

Bussell was tracked down by members of the sheriff’s office, and he was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Leonardtown, where he was charged with second-degree attempted murder.

No return court date for Bussell has been announced.
